“El proceso de construcción de una pirámide es largo y tedioso. Construye una gran pirámide y perdurará toda una vida; empéñate en alzarla sobre una pequeña base y obtendrás algo frágil y vulnerable”.

Hace tres meses contactaba conmigo Salva Osma, un conquense residente en Madrid, que me había conocido a través de uno de los foros de internet relacionados con el mundo del entrenamiento, donde de forma puntual, cuando estoy más descargado de trabajo, participo dando mi visión de experto en la materia.

Su objetivo principal era claro. No me preguntéis porqué, pero se había propuesto el reto de correr un maratón en un año de preparación.

Yo sé que detrás de ese objetivo había mucho más. Él estaba convencido de que necesitaba encontrarse activo, moverse, progresar, sentir esa sensación de bienestar después de sudar, de sacrificar su tiempo, de obtener resultados, de tener una obligación que le hiciera sentir libre (que paradoja)… y sobre todo, estaba convencido de que quería el deporte dentro de su vida.

Comenzamos a entrenar de forma paulatina, su cuerpo necesitaba adaptarse a este nuevo hábito, al estrés que crea una nueva actividad en el sistema muscular…

Los progresos durante las primeras semanas no fueron los que él esperaba, pero yo continué firme con mi estrategia.

Cada noche me conectaba a internet para ver lo que Salva (y por supuesto, el resto de mis deportistas) había entrenado.

¿Mi trabajo? Aprender a alternar las cargas, a hacerle lo más progresivo posible su adaptación al esfuerzo, enseñarle a cuidar su cuerpo…

Me gusta mimar mucho a la gente que deposita en mí su confianza y necesito conocer lo que pasa en cada entrenamiento, saber cuáles han sido sus sensaciones, analizar cada dato para ver si han cumplido con los kilómetros y ritmos marcados, ver como su corazón responde a cada estímulo, o atender a posibles indicadores de que algo no va bien.

“Me molesta el poplíteo, tengo una contractura en el sóleo, los isquiotibiales no van finos, tengo calambres en las piernas…” son algunos de sus comentarios en esta primera etapa.

¿Mi trabajo? Aprender a alternar las cargas, a hacerle lo más progresivo posible su adaptación al esfuerzo, enseñarle a cuidar su cuerpo…

Probablemente podíamos haber alcanzado un nivel mayor en estos tres meses, pero habríamos puesto en peligro su continuidad, correr el riesgo de sufrir alguna lesión y sobre todo, haber perdido esa ilusión que tiene por mejorar.

Hoy Salva ha terminado su primera carrera popular, en Madrid, en el Trofeo San Lorenzo, 10 km llenos de cuestas que le han sabido a gloria. Un paso más hacia su gran objetivo.

Al finalizar la prueba, me ha enviado unos mensajes de agradecimiento por mi trabajo, por la motivación que le inspiro y por los progresos que ya está experimentando.

Esto me anima a continuar leyendo, estudiando y dedicándole mi tiempo a estas personas que confían en mi.
